Per Wisselgren is Associate Professor (Docent) of Sociology and Programme Coordinator of Library and Information Science. He received his PhD in History of Science and Ideas from Umeå University in 2000. Before coming to the Department of Sociology in 2009, he was a postdoc at the Swedish Institute for Studies in Education and Research (SISTER), Stockholm, and researcher at the Department of History of Science and Ideas, Uppsala University. He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Sussex, the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS), London South Bank University, the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, the University of Potsdam and Uppsala STS Center.
Per is currently working on two research projects, one on "Alva Myrdal and Cold War International Social Science" (funded by RJ) and the other one on "Bibliotekskonsulenterna och det svenska bibliotekssystemets formering" (a pilot study funded by SBF). Courses taught include "Social Science in Context", "History and Sociology of Libraries", and "Global Sociology".
Per is also Steering Committee member of the Research Committee on the History of Sociology (RCHS) of the International Sociological Association (ISA) and member of the Group for Strategic Collection of Deposit Copies of the National Library of Sweden. In 2013 he was awarded the Katrin Fridjonsdottir Memorial Prize in the Sociology of Knowledge.
